Jean Ottosen's artwork focuses on the relationship between humans and the environment. Her work often highlights the impact that human actions can have on the environment and the creatures that inhabit it.
Jean is a fibre artist known for her vibrant, painterly creations that burst with colour and energy. She develops her distinctive colour palette by hand-dyeing her yarns and often incorporates hand-spun yarns into her work. To add texture and depth, Jean combines new and upcycled materials in her pieces.
As a multi-disciplinary artist, Jean is driven by a passion for fibre and the tactile experience of working with it. She has a long history of rug hooking, which she was introduced to in 1985 by Lucille Roxburgh. Jean has honed her skills through online classes with esteemed instructors such as Deanne Fitzpatrick and Susan Feller. While she still appreciates traditional rug hooking, she now aligns herself more with contemporary rug hooking, incorporating mixed media techniques into her work.
